Through God – I Can Overcome All Things

15 Sep 2021

Kathryn Bourke shares her story about overcoming depression and bouts of cancer:

Many years ago I was told that repenting, being baptised by full immersion and receiving the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues would not only give me the gift of eternal life, but I would also enter into a personal relationship with God. This is something that I had wanted ever since I was a child so, in 1985 I was baptised and after praying for several minutes I started speaking in a new tongue, one that I had never learned.

My immediate realisation was one of confidence that God is real and that He wanted to know me and loved me. Over the following years I have received many blessings that I am so very grateful for:

  • God has given me the ability to overcome anything that comes my way including severe depression that had me hospitalised on and off for two years
  • He has also carried me through pancreatic cancer and more recently, breast cancer. Throughout both cancers I had a confidence and assurance that all would be well, and it is – I am now completely cancer-free.

More importantly God has shown me how to be content whatever my circumstances, how to be a better person, how to love and serve others and how to overcome all things.
